My father said "I talk to myself because I like to hear an intelligent man speak." That is why I write, why I have been writing all my life.
I admire clear writing. Every sentence should be as short as possible to express a clear thought, but no shorter. I choose words the target audience will understand to frame ideas within their experience. Jargon can be precise and concise. I will use it when appropriate but never to impress. I care about good grammar, especially consistent structure.
I was a technical writer for 20 years, writing for audiences at all levels. I edited two books on the belly dance, rewrote directions for assembling a ping-pong table, and wrote several book reviews. I have had time to become expert in several areas and the skill to learn other areas well enough to write about them.
I also enjoy other languages, including Spanish, French, Russian, and Portuguese. I am currently studying Mandarin Chinese.
